zazami jima

Ama beach is just in front of my campsite. Was snorkelling there when i saw a snake. Found out later that quite a few snakes are found in ama beach. Was invited to a Japanese bbq by an ojisan i met the day before. before the night was over, i was filled with awamori (okinawa alcohol) and given the key to a cottage by a japanese who were in charge of the cottage accomodation. Haiz... wished i was given the key earlier, i wouldnt be suffering from backache from sleeping in the tent. my mode of transportation in zazami was hitchhiking as buses as a long wait and most okinawans are friendly enough to give you a lift.

roughing it out

From okinawa honto, I made my way to one of the islands in Keremas - Zazami jima. Population: 700. Too poor to be staying in a Minsukyu (something like bed and breakfast in Oz), I've decided to rough it out by staying for two nights in a tent. Was really proud that i managed to set the tent. first day, i was using paper to flick the worms away. by the second day, i could actually use my foot to "transport" the worms. the day was spent snorkelling at furujima beach.

heaven on earth

I've always seen pics where you see the bluest sky and the clearest water. At last, I've found such a place. The pics were taken in busena near nago (okinawa). Okinawa was really gorgeous... the water is crystal clear.

authentic sushi restaurant

At the top of your voice - sumimasen. This is not the time to be shy. A shy person will be ignored and go hungry. Salmon is as far as it goes if you speak in english to the chefs. Most chefs in authentic Jap restaurants do not understand english. Everytime a new dish comes out, the chef would ring the bell and a wet market kind of situation will happen. Everyone will be frantically raise their hands to get the limited special dishes. With my limited Jap, I really have to fight for my food. I love SUSHI!
